Antennas in automotive glazing

To meet the challenges of advances in communication technology, Pilkington is developing a range of antennae systems for vehicles - built into the glazing.

Pilkington Automotive played a a leading role in developing such systems, but demand is growing. Peter Paulus, project manager at Pilkington Automotive explains: "Growth in mobile communication is increasing the need for increased sophistication in antennae systems."

Pilkington has long used calibrated test sites and, since 1996, its own anechoic chamber, to measure the performance of the antennae as if the car was outside on the road.

Continued Peter: "The current stage of development of our antennae systems is the integration of antennae and electronics for cost reductions and the introduction of digital and optical links."
