Investment To Increase Scotland's Long Term Capacity

A £1.5 million investment will be aimed at substantially increasing Scotland’s long term capacity for recycling.

The money is to be pumped into the sector by Viridor Glass Recycling (VGR) at its Bonnyrigg plant just south of Edinburgh. Installation and commissioning is being phased in over 15 months, with completion due in mid 2007.

Developments include a highly efficient crushing plant for installation later this year, an automated sorting line which is now fully commissioned and an additional detection unit which is currently being installed.

VGR operations manager Jamie McBride said: “We are looking forward to the installation of a pioneering new crushing system which will complete our new production line.

“By crushing waste container glass in a tightly controlled environment we can achieve a purer product. This means that we get a higher yield from every tonne of glass we process, which is good for our customers and ourselves.”
