High-Tech Glass From Saint-Gobain For The Skywalk Walk
|
 The Skywalk glass bridge suspended above the Grand Canyon will be opened to the public. Constructed on the Indian Hualapai tribe’s territory of Peach Springs (Arizona), The Skywalk was imagined and built by architect Mark Johnson from MRJ Architects with SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS glazing. Hung 1,200 meters above the Colorado River, this walkway offers incomparable sights on the western rim of the Grand Canyon.
Anchored into the stone of the Grand Canyon wall, The Skywalk extends 21 meters from the canyon's edge above the void. Supported by steel beams, this 43 meter long and 3 meter large masterpiece is totally built with glass from SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS.
Manufactured by SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS in Germany (Cologne plant), all the glass used for The Skywalk construction is tempered and laminated.
It was processed thanks to the know-how of the SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS SOLUTIONS German and Austrian subsidiaries (SGDG KINON PORZ, SGGS ECKELT, DÖRING GLASS), which produced the SGG CONTOUR DIAMANT glass for the walkway walls and the SGG LITE-FLOOR DIAMANT glass for the floor.
