Toledo Museum Of Art Docents Socialize At Glass Pavilion

Like Alice in Wonderland, guests at the Toledo Museum of Art 2007 Docent Winter Social, “Through the Looking Glass,” March 9 were in awe as they meandered through the museum’s Glass Pavilion.

These volunteers make learning fun by giving tours of the museum’s collection, and they also study art. But they took time out for some fun of their own at the social, sipping, supping, and gabbing while the Toledo School for the Arts Jazz Combo played. A comic presentation put on by a few docents on glass-blowing and the ever-present reminder to be flexible added to the fun.

The Toledo School for the Arts offers both visual and performing arts studies, so it was the perfect source for entertainment, especially because the school uses the museum as a resource for visual art studies. TSA students take multiple tours per year that tie art in with classroom work in the areas of geometry, world history, studio art, and American history.

Marty Porter, director of the school, said, “The museum has been a major player in our Artnerships program, which allows community and cultural institutions to assist in teaching our students so we have top-notch training without reinventing the wheel.”
