Eastman licenses Polyethylene Technology in North America

Voridian Company, a division of Eastman Chemical Company, announced that it has concluded a definitive agreement to license proprietary low-density polyethylene (LDPE) know-how to a leading North American manufacturer of specialty polymers. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"This license leverages our LDPE expertise and know-how developed during almost a half century of successful operation at our Longview, Texas facility," said Thomas A. Smith, vice president of Voridian's polymer business group. "We have a proven ability to produce high-quality product safely and at high yields."

The agreement encompasses process technology for producing LDPE, involving better mixing in the reactors thereby increasing equipment reliability and providing other benefits. This and other related technologies applicable to LDPE production are available for license from Voridian.

"We believe we have technology offerings for older facilities which can upgrade product capabilities, process efficiency, and plant safety," said Dr. Greg W. Nelson, vice-president of technology in Voridian.
