Glass Tempering Line Expands Touchscreen Range

Zytronic has completed a GBP 0.75 million investment in a new flat glass tempering line with a fully integrated flatbed washer and a new, fully automated electroplating line that will supplement the existing manual operation and significantly increase manufacturing efficiencies.

The new facilities have been installed at the company's headquarters in Blaydon, Tyne-and-Wear. Optical clarity and flatness of tempered coated glass are both critical features of Zytronic's projected capacitive technology (PCT) which have enabled PCT to become an established touch technology of choice in a broad range of applications ranging from medical and industrial to gaming and retail.

The new flatbed tempering line has a bed size measuring 1050 x 21,000mm and has the capability to temper glass with thicknesses ranging from 2.8 to 19mm.

The line is fitted with an aspirated profiled airflow system that rapidly heats the glass, thus reducing the cycle time.

This in turn improves productivity without any compromise on optical quality and flatness.

Zytronic was the first European manufacturer to offer shielded window technology and its expertise in silver plated mesh production and blackening technologies has enabled the company to offer a full range of shielded window services for nearly 20 years.

The investment in the automated electroplating line provides a number of advantages in that it increases the mesh sizes that Zytronic can offer from approximately 750mm squares to 1200 x 800mm, and improves the control of the thickness and the distribution of the silver deposit.
