Float Glass Factory Proposed in Central Vietnam

Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction has forwarded to the government a proposal for a VND1,278 billion (US$79.9 mil) float glass factory in the central region.

It will be based in Quang Nam province’s Chu Lai Open Economic Zone thus getting access to the silica sand and limestone from the nearby districts of Thang Binh and Tam Ky, and dolomite from Thanh Hoa province.

It can produce Japanese standard glass of up to 25mm thickness.

It will be owned by the Vietnam Coal and Minerals conglomerate and two other local companies but the schedule for its construction and operation is not known.

Ministry sources said other agencies had voiced support for the project because of its low pollution rate.
