DuPont Teijin Films and CPFilms Alliance works to improve building safety

DuPont Teijin Films(TM) and CPFilms today announced the formation of a new strategic relationship to work jointly to reduce injury and property damage due to flying glass. This relationship includes joint development and marketing of protective window film products for commercial and residential building markets.

"When hurricanes or other natural disasters move through a community, the devastation to commercial and residential property can be severe. Damage and injury from projected glass can be extensive," said Henry Voigt, president and COO, DuPont Teijin Films. "And, as we experienced during the tragic events of September 11th, acts of terrorism can severely damage unprotected buildings with equally devastating effects to people and property."

"The alliance between our companies will quickly bring technology and expertise through a broader offering to commercial and residential markets," said Ken Vickers, president and CEO, CPFilms. "These products will continue to help control -- and in some cases prevent -- damage and injuries through expanded application of well-designed safety and security window film."

The two companies have collaborated since the 1980's to respond to the need for film-based safety and security products. For over 15 years, their products have been installed in U.S. embassies, military bases, other government buildings and commercial facilities throughout the world, providing increased security protection to employees and others. During that period, the product has also been greatly enhanced by adding other benefits to the film such as solar UV protection, glare reduction, and heat management.

The new collaboration will expedite and extend marketing and development of LLumar Magnum(R) safety and security films made with Mylar(R) to enhance the performance of glass in the building markets. For more information, call CPFilms customer service at 1-800-2LLumar.

DuPont Teijin Films, a joint venture between DuPont and Teijin headquartered in Wilmington, Del., produces biaxially-oriented Mylar(R) brand polyester film, which possesses optimal properties for safety and security window film: physical strength properties needed to control shattering glass, and outstanding optical properties for visual clarity.

CPFilms, based in Martinsville, Va., is the largest manufacturer of window film in the world and is known as the industry leader of safety and security film products, which are sold under the brand name LLumar Magnum(R). It is the only manufacturer that performs all the functions in the window film process at one facility. CPFilms' operations are ISO 9001 certified with over 700,000 sf of manufacturing space in its Southwest Virginia location. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Solutia, Inc. of St. Louis, Mo.

During 2002, DuPont is celebrating its 200th year of scientific achievement and innovation -- providing products and services that improve the lives of people everywhere. Based in Wilmington, Del., DuPont delivers science-based solutions for markets that make a difference in people's lives in food and nutrition; health care; apparel; home and construction; electronics; and transportation.

Solutia is a world-class applied chemistry company. Their products and services solve challenging technical problems and enhance the performance of consumer goods throughout the world. The major areas of business are films for glass products, resins, and specialty chemicals, carpet, nylon, nylon fibers, and pharma services. The company has operations around the world and employs approximately 8,000.
