Magic from black pyramids

In deep black with attractive reflections, Noir pour homme irresistibly attracts attention to itself. Even among the trendoriented New York public the new eau de toilette from the Parisian perfumery house S.T. Dupont is likely to create quite a stir: the striking men’s flacon surrounded by the dark
brilliance of glass pyramids was presented by Gerresheimer at Luxe Pack from 17 to 18 May 2006.

The high-gloss black glass in an upright slim tower reminiscent of the New York skyline makes this a really striking object. Its darkness swallows up all traces of transparency so the reflection of light by its smooth surface appears all the more mysterious. This effect is
magnified here by the designers: on the basic square shape they have built a surface area consisting of a large number of precisely arranged pyramids. The result is a severely geometric yet highly vivacious relief whose magic is exuded by a host of individual triangular surfaces. The pyramids cover each side of the flacon and continue seamlessly onto the cap while, in the smaller 50-millilitre format, 48 of them emerge in all directions.

The extravagant flacon with the French name for ‘black’ is likely to reinforce the trend towards dark glass for cosmetics and certainly provides new ideas for design with reliefs. “Gloss and texture work to fantastic effect in black flacons in particular“, says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Corporate PR and Marketing for the Gerresheimer Group: “These demand special know-how: as always with black, the particularly critical factor is immaculately shaped surfaces.“ © Gerresheimer Group GmbH
