Research Frontiers licenses to Japanese firm

Research Frontiers Inc. said Monday its automobile glass tinting technology will be used by a Tokyo-based glass company.
Asahi Glass Co. received a worldwide non-exclusive license to use Research Frontiers' patented SPD-Smart light-control technology in its automobile glass products. Asahi will use the technology in roof glass, such as sunroofs.
Terms of the agreement, or the amount of royalties to be paid to Research Frontiers were not disclosed.
According to Research Frontiers, its SPD-Smart products temper the amount of light or heat that passes through the glass, sparing a car's upholstery from fading and saving on the amount of energy drawn from the car for heating or cooling.
