135 New Jobs Coming to Fairfield County

Guardian Building Products Inc. announced Thursday it would make an initial investment of $39 million and create 135 jobs in Fairfield County as it establishes its third South Carolina facility.

The company has purchased an existing manufacturing plant that it will retrofit to begin manufacturing fiberglass insulation in the spring of 2007. The plant, located in Winnsboro, will be operated by Guardian Fiberglass Inc., a GBP subsidiary.

Based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Guardian Industries Corp. is a worldwide manufacturer of float glass and fabricated glass products for the commercial and residential construction industries.

Its Building Products Group is headquartered in Greenville and a float glass manufacturing operation is located in Richburg, employing more than 600 South Carolinians at both facilities.

"The assistance we received from economic development officials across the state was tremendous," said Peter S. Walters, group vice president, Guardian Industries Corp. "We have a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the state of South Carolina and we look forward to furthering that growth and becoming part of the Winnsboro community."

"We’re pleased that Guardian Industries has once again chosen South Carolina to expand its growing Building Products division," said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. "With the continued growth in the residential and commercial construction sectors, we’re glad that they recognized the great tools we have in South Carolina for them to get their new business unit up and running quickly. We wish them much success and thank our allies in Fairfield County and with the Central SC Alliance for working with us to make this announcement possible."
