PPG to pay $60 million to settle suit
|
PPG Industries Inc. will pay $60 million to settle a lawsuit that alleges it conspired with other glass makers to overcharge for flat glass products.
U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose approved the settlement last month. The company said it agreed to settle to avoid ongoing litigation expenses.
PPG was the last of six companies to settle the case. A lawsuit filed by glass installers in 1997 alleged the defendants overcharged for glass sold from 1991 through 1995. The other companies, which settled earlier for about $61 million, were Libbey-Owens-Ford Co. of Toledo, Ohio; Pilkington PLC of England; AFG Industries of Kingsport, Tenn.; Guardian Industries Corp. of Auburn Hills, Mich; and Ford Motor Co. of Detroit.
The U.S. Supreme Court last year rejected an appeal by PPG to stop the case from proceeding.
