Jones Paint & Glass Still Going Strong After 65 Years

Since its humble beginnings more than 65 years ago, Jones Paint & Glass has served Utah communities with the best in residential, commercial and automotive paint and glass.

“Harold Jones opened the first Jones Paint & Glass in Provo back in 1938, and they’ve been in Cedar City since 1990, providing service to residents and housing contractors,” said Brad Seamons, Cedar City branch manager for Jones Paint & Glass. “It’s a company-owned business with 275 employees, and we also have locations in St. George, American Fork, Roosevelt and Vernal.”

Cedar City’s store recently moved from its smaller location at 720 S. 300 West to a bigger and newer location at 38 E. 1600 North on Jan. 17.

“The old building wasn’t necessarily too small because it fit our needs for 15 years, but now we just outgrew it because of the ongoing growth in Cedar City,” Seamons said. “We had a hard time servicing customers the way we needed to, and we needed a bigger building. Also, the future of Cedar City is in the growing north end of town, so more people will notice us and we’ll gain new customers.”

When it comes to quality paint, Jones Paint & Glass has a full line of ICI paints, which happens to be one of the biggest manufacturers for paint worldwide.

“ICI is actually the world’s largest paint manufacturer,” said Justin Lewis, regional sales representative for ICI. “They manufacture well-known brands like Glidden and This Old House.”

Seamons said Jones Paint & Glass carries some of the more well-known ICI paint brands.

“Our different brands of ICI paints include common household names like Devoe and Fuller O’Brien, our best-selling paints, and Ralph Lauren, which is awesome paint you can’t really get anywhere else,” he said. “With Ralph Lauren, you can paint a wall and make it look like suede leather, river rock, linen sheets or denim, all of which are unique things you can’t do with other products.”

Seamons also said the ICI paint carried by Jones Paint & Glass is some of the best-quality paint residents can get in Cedar City.

“Our paint has more solid content and color retention, and it adheres to the wall better and is more long-lasting,” he said. “It also contains 100-percent acrylics, it’s washable and durable, and our average cost is only about $15 a gallon.”

Jones Paint & Glass carries a variety of paint sundries, such as brushes, rollers, tape, buckets, masks and drop cloths, for the average everyday paint job. It also carries automotive, residential and commercial glass for all types of needs.

“We have a full glass shop with a selection of glass that includes glass for windshields, side doors and back glass for cars, and we also have glass used for shower doors, mirrors and other residential necessities,” Seamons said. “We also have a warranty saying that if 10 years later there’s wear and tear on the glass, we’ll replace it for free.”

Seamons said some of the best-selling glass products at Jones Paint & Glass include windows manufactured by the company itself. Its specialized doors are big sellers, as well.

“We manufacture our own vinyl windows, which are a best-seller for homes, alongside our Marvin wood ones, and we just opened an exterior and interior door shop that has doors made of wood, steel and glass,” Seamons said. “We also include that same 10-year warranty on our doors.”

In addition to selling paint, glass, windows and doors, Jones Paint & Glass offers aid to those who may be looking to paint with style.

“We have ‘faux finishing’ classes here where people come to sign up and learn how to paint more interestingly,” Seamons said. “We teach people how to rag, sponge, glaze and use antique paint.”
