SGG Biocleans innovative feature is a titanium oxide-based ultra-thin layer which is deposited on the glass during the manufacturing process. This layer reacts with natural elements such as sunshines ultraviolet rays and rainwater to let the glass rid itself of accumulated dirt. With SGG Bioclean, sunshine causes the breakdown of organic dirt, while rainwater or washing water eliminates the residues in a uniform fashion. SGG Bioclean self-cleaning glass can be used on all facades: public or commercial buildings such as airports, schools or office complexes, residential dwellings, and is equally suited for both new build and refurbishment projects. Basically anywhere where the glass is exposed to day light, in a vertical or inclined position. Solar control and acoustic glass, double-glazed units and design glass will also have advantages.
It harnesses the power of UV rays and rain and has a dual-action self-clenaing effect.
How It Works
1 - photcatalytic action
Ulta-violet rays present in daylight trigger the decomposition of organic dirt and cause the surface of the glass to turn hydrophilic.
The phenomenom of photocatalysis can take place in sunny or in cloudy weather.
2 - hydrophilic action
Thanks to this special hydrohilic action, a water film is formed when rain makes contact with the surface of the glass. This film allows the broken-down dirt particles and mineral dirt to be rinsed away.
Water quickly evaporates on the surface and the glass is left clean and dry.
The term 'self-cleaning' means that the process of cleaning the glass is carried out, or at least greatly assisted, by natural elements. 'Self-cleaning' does not mean 'maintenance-free' especially in heavily polluted environments.
