Solutia Introduces two new acrylic resins offering outstanding performance in automotive clearcoats

The Resins and Additives business unit of Solutia has introduced two new acrylic resins to its extensive Viacryl product range. Both of the new products offer improved performance in automotive OEM clearcoat formulations and similar applications.

Viacryl VSC 2955/65SNA is a modified, hydroxy-functional, thermosetting acrylic resin, offering excellent scratch and etch resistance in automotive clearcoat formulations. A solvent-borne resin with 65% solids content, Viacryl 2955/65SNA can be used to achieve a clearcoat with extremely high gloss and very low yellowing after overbake.

Viacryl VSC 2955sca/55SNA is a hydroxy-functional, sagging control agent modified, thermosetting acrylic resin, to improve applicability. When used in combination with compatible acrylic resins (e.g., Viacryl VSC 2955/65SNA), the new product creates a noticeable improvement in the sagging tendencies of a clearcoat formulation, but without affecting the gloss of the coating.
