Glass plant is sold

Glass bottle manufacturing plant that was within weeks of having its equipment auctioned off was sold Wednesday to a Pittsburgh businessman who plans on reopening the plant.

William Kelman, owner of L.E. Smith Glass Co. in Westmoreland County, signed a deal to buy Glenshaw Glass for $3.8 million, said Margaret Good, president of The Meridian Group. The Pittsburgh-based management firm was installed as receiver in November after creditor PNC Bank seized control of Glenshaw Glass in Shaler Township.

The sale is subject to approval by the bankruptcy court.
