Asahi Glass to Increase Production Capacity of AFLAS Fluoroelastomer

Asahi Glass announced on May 16 that it has decided to increase its production capacity of AFLAS fluoroelastmer used mainly in covering materials for electric cables and automotive parts.

The move is in response to an expectation that global demand for fluoroelastmer will rise at annual rate of about 10%.

Asahi Glass will increase the production capacity by around 50% at its Chiba plant, with construction scheduled to start in March 2006.

The company will invest an estimated 1.8 billion yen ($16.5 mil) to increase the plant's output capacity.
