Anchor Glass Turns to BOC CGM Technology to Increase Product Quality; CGM Technology Gaining Broad Acceptance in Glass Industry

Anchor Glass Company has licensed the BOC (NYSE: BOX) CGM(TM) technology for glass processing in Anchor's Warner Robins, Georgia, glass container manufacturing plant.

After the CGM system and components were installed and performed successfully in a trial, Anchor decided to license the CGM burner system from BOC. The glass quality from Warner Robins' modern designed oxy-fuel furnace was improved by the enhanced heat transfer rate that the BOC patented CGM oxygen combustion technology provides.

Steve Hope, vice president, global glass market sector, BOC, said, "The CGM technology delivers a step-change improvement in the melting quality of glass furnaces. It can also be used to boost the capacity or increase yield from an existing furnace, or as the base technology in a new furnace. The CGM system can routinely deliver capacity increases of up to 15 percent, and some customers have reported increases of greater than 50 percent. CGM technology from BOC also has been shown to extend the campaign life of conventional air-fuel furnaces, providing significant benefits to glass producers."

In addition to the recent installation at the Warner Robins' glass container plant, BOC reports that CGM technology is gaining acceptance in other segments of the glass industry, including float glass, specialty and fiberglass. In all, there are about 25 CGM systems installed worldwide in the glass industry.

"BOC's CGM technology overcame a major melting deficiency and allowed us to produce glass that meets and in most cases exceeds, our customers' quality criteria," said Gordon Stewart, vice president, engineering, Anchor Glass.

Anchor Glass Container is one of the top three glass container manufacturers in the U.S. The company manufactures a line of clear, amber, green and other colored glass containers, which it markets to major beer, beverage and food companies worldwide.

Glass manufacturers look to BOC for its knowledge, skill and experience in delivering reliable engineered solutions for their combustion technology and glass process requirements. BOC's glass experts have years of industry experience and are focused on designing and delivering solutions that address our customers' productivity, environmental and economic challenges at their facilities worldwide. BOC also supplies gas and related solutions to the chemicals, petroleum, glass, water services, electronic packaging, fiber optics, hydrogen energy, metals and food industries. BOC helps meet customer needs in a variety of ways, from the supply of a single gas or application through to designing, constructing and operating fully integrated gas and utilities schemes.
