Region's largest automotive glass factory inaugurated

Lumiglass Industries, one of Dubai Investment Group's subsidiaries, today announced the launch of its first state-of-the-art production facility at Al Quoz industrial area in Dubai.

The facility was inaugurated by HE Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Emirates Bank Group in the presence of Anis Al Jallaf, Chairman, Dubai Investments and other dignitaries.

HE Ahmed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Emirates Bank Group said, 'UAE has been at the forefront of creating a sustainable model of economic growth, and production facilities such as these demonstrate the progress achieved by Dubai in this regard. I congratulate Dubai Investments and Lumiglass for bringing the region's most sophisticated production unit to Dubai.'

'Dubai Investments partners with ambitious companies in a broad range of industry sectors including manufacturing. Lumiglass's sound business plan and excellent credentials supports our investments philosophy. The potential of the range of products from Lumiglass is huge in the Middle East market. Our knowledge and commitment will support Lumiglass in further expansion of its production capacity,' added Al Jallaf.

Khalid Kalban, MD and CEO of Dubai Investments said, 'Lumiglass Industries LLC was established in early 2003, to serve the growing demand for automotive glass, architectural Glass, flat stock laminated glass, bullet resistant glass, security glass, anti-blast glass, curved glass, and other glazing. Although with a different product offering, LumiGlass and Emirates Glass will provide a comprehensive solution to the customer due to the sheer proximity of both the production facilities.'

It's a historic day for us. We are pleased to announce a Dhs 6 million deal with a UAE based company for 60,000 windscreens. This makes us the only unit in the UAE to have an order book of Dhs 40 million, completely sold-out production for the first year, even before the commencement of commercial production,' said Mr. Hari Peramaa, General Manager, Lumiglass.

Lumiglass Industries features a fully automated Robotech pre-processing line; a fully automated screen printing unit and a computerized bending furnace. The large Tamglass autoclave is the largest of its kind in the world and can produce laminated glass in sizes up to 6000 x 2500 mm. The facility also features the latest equipment to test distortion, fragmentation, ageing, and impact resistance as well as many other aspects.

With the biggest automotive windscreen bending machine ever built, the factory currently has the capacity to produce approximately 300,000 plus windscreens a year. The facility at Al Qouz is the only one in the UAE with highest level of automation and safety certification.

'It is not the size of the facility that is causing excitement in the industry circles, but the cutting edge technology that is housed within. The exports have been targeted for the Middle East and European markets,' Peramaa pointed out.
