Visteon's Dueren chassis plant supports an integrated day Nursery

Visteon Corporation is supporting the integrated day nursery Roelsdorf in Dueren / Germany, which caters to 35 disabled and 10 non-disabled children. With the donation from the Visteon Fund, the Dueren Chassis Plant has financed a therapeutic and recreational area within the center, which will be opened just before the Holiday season.

The "Snoezelen Room" - the name is Dutch for "cuddle" -is a creatively designed sensory-stimulation room. Beneath a twinkling sky of lights, children can make themselves comfortable on bean bags, enjoy soothing music and bubbling, colorful lava lamps while exploring the feel of different materials, playing or simply drifting off into a day-dream.

Ernst Herzog, Visteon Plant Manager in Dueren, is enthusiastic about the creative idea, "This
therapeutic room represents yet another good example in helping the children to train their physical capabilities," he said. "In 1996 the Dueren Visteon facility lent its support to the center by having a large-scale wooden car built. This time we're providing financial aid from the Visteon Fund, set up in 1999, as a means of paying tribute to the incredible commitment of the nursery teachers and parents and their successful integrated scheme." Edith Mertens, head of the Roelsdorf Nursery said, "Our most important goal is to support our children's skills and give them individual encouragement. The support from Visteon has helped us reach this goal, we're delighted with the result."

The Roelsdorf day nursery is a private center, financed by a charitable organization. The center looks after 35 disabled children each day, alongside 10 non-disabled children. Founded in 1975, the goal of the center is to provide individual support for children with different kinds of disabilities and bring them together with non-disabled children to promote social integration.

The donations were made available through the Visteon Fund, which was established in 1999 to enrich the lives of children and improve the environment by supporting local, community-based organizations that recognize and meet the needs of their communities. The Fund is now active in 19 countries, and more than 81 teams of employees around the world are empowered by Visteon to make funding decisions to support worthy organizations in their community.
