PPG named paint supplier of the year by Decoma for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year PPG Industries has been named paint supplier of the year at Decoma International, a subsidiary of Magna International.

The award is part of Decoma's effort to recognize exceptional quality, service, delivery and value among its suppliers. Award criteria include nomination by at least two Decoma locations, approval by all Decoma locations and final selection by Decoma purchasing managers. Winners were announced at a supplier conference in Toronto.

PPG supplies Powercron electrodeposition coatings, Spectracron liquid coatings and Aquacron waterborne coatings to 14 Decoma locations throughout North America. The two Decoma locations that nominated PPG for the award were Lexamar in Boyne City, Mich., and Polycon in Guelph, Ontario.

Chris Rolko, Decoma's director of purchasing and continuous improvement, said, "As Lexamar upgraded its paint line this past year, PPG was there all the way, supporting their efforts and providing whatever technical assistance they could. At Polycon, the quality of PPG's paint over the past year has been nothing short of excellent. PPG always provides the right people at the right time to address any issues that may arise. No wonder PPG is back on the stage to receive another award this year."

J. Rich Alexander, global general manager of PPG general industrial coatings business, said, "We are very proud to have been recognized again this year by Decoma. They are a clear global leader in key vehicle supply areas of exteriors, body and chassis systems and interiors."

Joe Keine, PPG's director of transportation coatings, added, "We are honored that we were selected as Decoma's paint supplier of the year for 2001. This award reinforces our position as the world leader in transportation coatings."

Magna, one of the world's most diversified automotive suppliers, designs, develops and manufactures automotive systems, assemblies, modules and components. In addition, Magna engineers and assembles complete vehicles, primarily for sale to original equipment manufacturers of cars and light trucks in North America, Europe, Mexico, South America and Asia. Magna, whose headquarters are in Aurora, Ontario, has more than 63,000 employees in 166 manufacturing operations and 31 product development and engineering centers in 18 countries. The Decoma group produces various exterior parts for cars and trucks including fascias, bumpers, mirrors and trim parts. The group has 37 production facilities throughout the world.
