'Glass Guard' windshield treatment shown at FMCA

Diamon-Fusion USA West, Inc. (DFUW) announced the demonstration of its award-winning “GlassGuard” hydrophobic nanotechnology, windshield treatment at the Family Motor Coach Association's 72nd International Convention at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center August 16-19.

Once applied to RV windshields, Diamon-Fusion®'s chemical vapor deposition nanotechnology significantly increases driver visibility by forcing rain to sheet off of windshields while expanding the brilliance, durability, scratch and impact resistance of the glass simultaneously. DFW will be demonstrating this remarkable technology through its Great American RV, Paul Everts’ RV Country and C&D Motorhomes dealer booths at the show.

“Amazingly enough, almost one out of five automotive windshields are replaced within the first year of ownership,” said Ron Rose, president and owner of Diamon-Fusion USA West, Inc. “Unfortunately, many replacement windshields are made of inferior glass which can increase driver eye fatigue and cause headaches. As a result, GlassGuard can decrease car ownership costs and increase driver safety which is increasingly critical in today’s speed-driven society.”

Diamon-Fusion’s GlassGuard has been tested and certified by Dr. William C. LaCourse, Professor of Glass Science at the Institute for Glass Science and Engineering at Alfred University to gain empirical, third-party proof that the application decreases adhesion, increases repellency and extends the durability of glass to improve visibility in bad weather while increasing driver safety. A side by side comparison of Diamon-Fusion treated glass and untreated glass spectacularly demonstrates the effect.

The treated side repels water without streaks and dries instantly, dramatically improving road visibility while increasing driver reaction time. In fact, experts say that 70 percent of all traffic accidents occur during inclement weather. The GlassGuard lab tests prove that at 40 mph, driver reaction time is increased by 30 percent, providing the driver with an additional 58 foot safety margin which can transform what would have been a serious accident into a simple driving hiccup.

To prove the enhanced strength of a GlassGuarded windshield, Diamon-Fusion shot a BB gun at close range at both windshields, simulating the effect of road debris damage that can occur at highway speeds. Typically, road debris impacts a windshield at a speed of 88 feet per second when the driver is going 60 miles per hour, chipping and/or cracking the glass. The BB gun test impacted the glass at speeds of more than 350 feet per second. The results show a minimal affect on the GlassGuarded windshield while the untreated side is left with a gaping star-like hole.

The Diamon-Fusion technology bonds to the glass creating a stronger, smoother surface that drains quickly and is 10 times stronger than glass. By reducing the natural adhesion of glass surfaces to heighten water repellency and increase strength, Diamon-Fusion enhances visibility and durability with a simple and effective treatment.

Road debris ricochets right off; water runs away instantly and ice or snow is easier to remove; making cleaning fast and easy. More importantly, staining from mineral buildup and the inevitable insect debris from driving is much easier to clean. In the past, RV owners may have had to employ toxic chemicals to clean or remove these deposits on their windshields and windows. In addition, GlassGuard protects against acid rain and corrosion and is impervious to UV rays.

Diamon-Fusion Technology works by filling in the microscopic peaks and valleys that make up the surface of glass. Patented in 52 countries around the world, the Diamon-Fusion technology is not a coating that can peel and blister over time. Using a Chemical Vapor Deposition Process, the Diamon-Fusion Technology transforms a liquid catalyst into a vapor that fills the peaks and valleys creating an ultra smooth surface that glass by itself does not possess.

The surface to be fused goes through a cleaning process and is then coated with a liquid catalyst (in cases of high humidity, no catalyst is necessary). A specially designed machine pumps out a "fog-like" vapor containing the special chemicals needed to make the molecular change. The process happens in a split-second and the glass is immediately usable. All chemicals become inert within seconds.
