Owens-Illinois Announces New Chief Information Officer

Owens-Illinois, Inc., announced that Gerard (Ged) D. Doyle has been named chief information officer effective August 1. Concurrently, Doyle has been appointed a vice president of Owens-Illinois by the board of directors.

In this new role, Doyle will be responsible for the Company's global IT infrastructure including applications and systems development. He will also champion systems integration with recently-acquired BSN Glasspack and customer integration around the world in supporting the overall value proposition of the Company. He will be located at the Company headquarters in Toledo, Ohio, and will report to Steve McCracken, O-I Chairman and CEO.

"The addition of a CIO to our executive staff is part of our strategy to focus on fundamentals and leverage our global capabilities," said McCracken. "The position is critical to leverage and evolving to a more modern and vibrant way of doing business."

Doyle has 28 years of experience in information technology (IT) having implemented infrastructure and business systems in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, China and Japan.

He currently serves as CIO for the O-I subsidiary in Australia, ACI Packaging. Before joining ACI in 1996, he worked 11 years for a petroleum company with both onshore and offshore manufacturing operations in various positions including IT superintendent. Prior to that, he spent two years as an IT consultant after serving seven years with the Australian government in the department of defense and later as computer manager for the Australian Taxation Office.

In March 2001, Doyle received the "ComputerWorld Information Technology & Telecommunications Fellows Award" honoring the outstanding achievements of IT leaders in Australia.
