Man crushed to death by glass panels in Jacksonville

A 60-year-old man was crushed to death Friday by a load of glass panels at a construction site, officials said.

Bobby Eugene Stephens was unloading 15 glass panels from a truck when they fell on him, Jacksonville police said.

Stephens was knocked unconscious and was cut on the back of his head and one of his arms, police said. He was pulled out by four other workers from Mac's Glass and Mirror Inc. and airlifted to Shands Jacksonville, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities believe he died from the weight of the glass, The Florida Times-Union reported.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.
