American Glass Research, a division of Agr International, recently participated in a study to evaluate test methods for determining the total concentration of heavy metals in glass packaging.

The study was sponsored by the Toxics in Packaging Clearing House (TPCH) and funded by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. The conclusion of the study showed that American Glass Research’s analytical laboratory fared extremely well in comparison tests performed by nine other testing laboratories.

According to TCPH, the test methods used by American Glass Research accurately measured lead in glass packaging samples based on the evaluation parameters outlined in the TCPH report. As a result of this study, American Glass Research will be included in TCPH’s list of laboratories that are qualified to perform the recommended testing methods for toxics in packaging, including the analysis of glass samples using EPA Method 3052 or equivalent.

The TPCH supports and helps coordinate the implementation of toxics in packaging laws in North America.  Additional information on TCPH, their mission and goals, can be found on their website at http://www.toxicsinpackaging.org.

Agr International and American Glass Research provide a host of offerings to the glass industry including container testing and measurement equipment as well as consulting, training and analytical services.
