Optimalon Software Released New Version of Online Glass Panel Cutting Optimizer Supporting Metric and Imperial Units, Importing / Exporting Excel and DXF Files

Date: 2 October 2014

Optimalon Software has launched a new version of a free web-based application that provides cutting optimization for flat glass panels.

It got a completely new user interface with plain registration and project management functionality.

This new version provides the long-wanted ability to specify the panels and parts-measurement units. It supports both metric (millimeters, centimeters and meters) and imperial (feet, inches) units. Users can specify fractions of inches in a convenient and simple way.

All project settings, such as minimal waste size, panel trims, saw kerf and cutting methods, have been split into different web pages for more intuitive and easy access.

With this upgrade, Optimalon also implemented a new calculation page that displays the status of the current optimization run, as well as start and elapsed times. If the calculation process takes a long time, the user has the ability to stop it.

New version introduced two types of accounts: Basic and Premium. The Basic account is completely free to anybody and suitable for hobbies and small projects, whereas the Premium account is for professional users who have big projects and require the ability to import/export panels and parts to external Excel files. The Premium account is available as an annual subscription ($49.99 per year) or Pay-As-You-Go service ($9.99 per month).

Marketing director of Optimalon Software, Denis Smirnov, explained: "We've been getting more and more requests from our existing clients to implement importing the panels and parts from the Excel spreadsheets. Another frequently asked question we received was about saving the cutting layouts at once. Small projects may have a few graphical layouts that can be saved into PNG-files one by one. However, the bigger projects with hundreds of layouts were impractical to save."

Premium users now have the functionality to save the resulting graphical layouts and locations of each part and cutting sequence into an Excel spreadsheet file, which can be printed and provided to the cutting operators. Should they require any post-processing steps, the online panel cutter provides export of the cutting layouts into Autocad DXF file (R12 format).

The online panel cutter is free to anyone and accessible from Optimalon's website at the following link: http://www.optimalon.com/online_cut_optimizer.htm
