Will also highlight 50th anniversary of SOLARBAN glass – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) will introduce OPTIGRAY(R) glass, an ultra-neutral, warm-light-gray glass, during GlassBuild America, the Glass, Window and Door Expo, Sept. 9-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

PPG also will highlight new SOLARBAN(R) z75 glass while continuing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Solarban glass.Optigray glass is designed to maximize light transmittance and clarity, and to work with Solarban coated solar control, low-e glasses to enhance solar performance. The light-gray tint in Optigray glass eliminates the green naturally present in conventional clear glass formulations, producing a highly-transparent, super-neutral aesthetic that can actually show less color than clear glass.

The gold-anniversary celebration of Solarban glass will continue as well, with PPG featuring a retrospective of architecturally-significant buildings constructed with Solarban glass, such as its first installation on the Mutual of Omaha Regional Office Building in Miami. Now known as Colonnade Plaza, the eight-story building designed by Twin Towers architect Minoru Yamasaki features 9-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling windows. Advances in glass-coating technology associated with the Solarban brand from 1964 through today will be highlighted.

Solarban z75 glass, the newest addition to the Solarban product line in North America, will be on display. With a neutral cool-gray tint and low reflectivity, Solarban z75 glass looks similar to Solarban z50 glass but is equipped with better solar control performance, giving architects another choice for neutral cool-gray glass that is optimized for their local climate and building codes.

PPG also will display STARPHIRE(R) ultra-clear glass. Available in thicknesses of 3 to 12 millimeters, Starphire glass is now manufactured using oxy-fuel furnace technology at PPG’s float glass plant in Fresno, California, in addition to the plant in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Starphire glass is ideal for architectural and interior design applications such as storefronts, tabletops, display cases and interior doors because of its clarity, color transmission and jewel-like blue edge.

PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) will introduce OPTIGRAY(R) glass (left), an ultra-neutral, warm-light-gray glass designed to maximize light transmittance and clarity, and also to work with SOLARBAN(R) coated solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) glasses by PPG to enhance solar performance. Optigray glass (left) is significantly lighter and more transparent than SOLARGRAY(R) glass, as shown here. The light-gray tint in Optigray glass eliminates the green naturally present in conventional clear glass formulations, producing a highly-transparent, super-neutral aesthetic that can actually show less color than clear glass. Optigray and Solargray glasses have been made opaque in this photo to intensify color. Visit PPG Industries at Booth 2121 during GlassBuild America, the Glass, Window and Door Expo, Sept. 9-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) now offers SOLARBAN(R) z75 glass in North America. The solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) glass features a neutral, cool-gray tint and can help glazing systems in the U.S., Canada and Mexico more effectively meet new LEED(R) v4 targets for energy efficiency as well as California’s new Title 24 requirements. Visit PPG Industries at Booth 2121 during GlassBuild America, the Glass, Window and Door Expo, Sept. 9-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Colonnade Plaza, then known as the Mutual of Omaha Regional Office Building, 1965, Minoru Yamasaki, Miami

PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) is commemorating the 50th anniversary of SOLARBAN(R) glass at GlassBuild America, the Glass, Window and Door Expo, with a retrospective of modern and historic buildings constructed with Solarban products that is also viewable online at www.SolarbanGlassLegacy.com. Seen here, the Mutual of Omaha Regional Office Building (now Colonnade Plaza) in Miami, constructed in 1965, was the first building to incorporate Solarban glass, one of the first coated glasses engineered expressly to block solar radiation and thereby reduce air-conditioning-related energy consumption.
