Young Researchers Recognized During GlassCon Global

Eight college students received GlassCon Global young researcher awards for their research and contribution to the architectural glass and glazing industry during the inaugural GlassCon Global conference held from July 7-10 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Six students from the U.S. and Europe earned international recognition.The award winners were:


  • Frederick Langezaal – Drexel University

  • Matthew Davis – Drexel University

  • Thomas Gober – Drexel University

  • Rashed Al-Dakheel – Drexel University

  • Bert Van Lancker – Ghent University

  • Chiara Bedon – University of Trieste, Department of Engineering and Architecture


“We are both impressed and proud of our young researchers,” said Jürgen Neugebauer, Chairman of the GlassCon Global Scientific Committee and a professor at the University of Applied Science FH Joanneum in Graz, Austria. “Their presentations helped us drive innovation in glass technology during the GlassCon Global conference.”

The awards were presented during the GlassCon Global Welcome Networking Reception and Young Researchers Award Ceremony held on July 8 at the National Constitution Center. To be eligible for the awards, the young researchers had to submit an abstract to the GlassCon Global scientific committee, be selected to present at the conference, submit their white paper and then deliver their presentation to attendees at the conference.

GlassCon Global is a technical conference that was developed to drive innovation in glass technology. The first event of its kind in North America, GlassCon Global brought together all facets of the architectural glass and glazing industry for two-and-a-half days of education, collaboration and networking. The information shared and relationships created and strengthened will help build tomorrow’s innovations today.
