London Aquatics Centre captures architectural awards with Tvitec's crystal as star of the project

The current sports complex, which has had Tvitec as a supplier of glass, just won the New London Award 2014 (NLA) in the Civic, Culture and Sports category.  

The NLA awards recognize the best new build or development projects. Also the Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) has included to London Aquatics Centre among the finalists of your awards. The building opened to the public earlier this year by offering its pools and swimming lessons for people of all ages and capabilities.

The London Aquatics Centre was one of the emblems of the 2012 Olympics, but has had to adapt to everyday functionality. The transformation project involving TVITEC, began after the games, and basically consisted of the renovation of the resort wings.

The stands were stripped to reduce the number of places the building of 17,500 to 2,500 and make way for 628 pieces of laminated glass and double glazed -314 on each side-. Tvitec provided a total of almost 3,000 square meters of glass for the successful project.

In addition, the glass panels offer a screen-printed dot matrix pattern that varies in each of them through the lift to help control daylight levels and restrict glare, particularly around the trampolines.

The glass was key to creating an attractive and open to ensure that people can not look intimidated by this type of building spaces.
