Hsinchu to hold glass art festival
|
The final arrangements are being made for the 2003 Hsinchu International Glass Art Festival. Most of the exhibition halls will soon be completed. The International Exhibition Hall, venue of the festival, will showcase 70 creative art works by 28 artists from 13 countries. A glass art master from Italy has been invited to present his latest work that will be placed at the entrance of the International Exhibition Hall.
Wang Syue-jhao, general Manager of the Yi-sing Art center, during the inauguration of the festival yesterday said that the glass art works were designed by internationally renowned artists. "They are based on their conceptions of the culture of Hsinchu City," he said. Huang An-fu, the president of Glassman Society of Hsinchu said that through the art works, both artists and viewers will arrive at a tacit understanding of the underlying messages hidden within the glass art works.
The Hsinchu City government led by Mayor Lin Junq-tzer, planned the festival by fielding suggestions from various art circles. A Swan Castle and Swan Bridge have been built with the cooperation of members of the Glassman Society of Hsinchu. "Closer interaction between local and international artists will help give the Glass Art Festival international resonance," said Mayor Lin. "Its purpose is not only to promote our glass art industry, but also the economy of our city."
The "Search for Cinderella" will be held on November 29, 2003 and January 17, 2004. Single women of all ages and nationalities are welcome to participate in this activity. Those whose feet fit the size of the glass slipper will become the princess of Swan Castle and win a prize of NT$30,000, besides keeping the glass slipper as a souvenir.
Mayor Lin stressed that this festival is an opportunity to learn about the beauty and history of glass art, a valuable heritage and industry that should be passed on to future generations.
