Bloom Refractory moving into plant in Jeannette Industrial Park

A portion of the former General Glass Industries glass-making plant in the Jeannette Industrial Park will be used to expand production of heat-resistant material used to line furnaces in the aluminum and steel industries.
Bloom Refractory Products LLC, based in Baldwin, Allegheny County, plans to make custom-engineered refractories to complement its line of refractory shapes and combustion equipment products. Major product lines at its Baldwin plant include precast, castable and plastic refractories.
"(Jeannette) gives us a line of refractories to enhance what we do in the South Hills. We're not up to speed to supply outside customers ... yet," said Trevor Dunthorne, president and CEO of Bloom Engineering.
Founded in 1934, Bloom Engineering serves global steel and aluminum markets through wholly owned subsidiaries and license partners, operating in Europe, South America, China and Brazil. Bloom Engineering employs about 120 workers in Baldwin. The company is owned by Caledonia Investments PLC, London.
