Pilkington: Multi-year contract for TAV-8B
|
Pilkington Aerospace has been awarded a new multi-year contract by the Defense Supply Center in Richmond (DSCR), Virginia, to supply aircraft canopies for the US Navy's fleet of TAV-8B aircraft.
The TAV-8B was developed by McDonnell Douglas in 1986 as a two-seater trainer for the AV-8B Harrier a vertical/short take-off and landing strike aircraft, operated by the US Marines. Although primarily a trainer, the TAV-8B is fully combat-capable.
Pilkington Aerospace has been the sole source supplier of AV-8B and TAV-8B transparencies since the programme first began, and as a vertically integrated manufacturer of cast and stretched acrylic, the company played a crucial role in the design and development of both the windshields and canopies for this revolutionary aircraft.
Pilkington produces transparencies for the Harrier at its Southern California facility with the new contract with DSCR representing almost $400,000 in base year sales, with four option years.
