Simultaneous Application of Different Separating Agents for Float Glass and Flat Glass

With the ability to apply two different separating agents simultaneously, the Bavarian company Grafotec Spray Systems GmbH demonstrates the flexible use options of its AP system.

Applying two different powder separating agents is not a standard process in the float glass and flat glass industry. Nevertheless customers always want a specific separating agent when it comes to protecting their own glass. In the past the only way of fulfilling this customer wish was to invest in two independently-controlled separating agent application systems.

Grafotec Spray Systems GmbH, the German manufacturer of separating agent application systems, recently put the flexible adaptability of the AP system to the test in a plant in Northern Italy. In doing so they used a simple improved version of the existing "AP 550 TWIN" application system that was developed specifically for applying powder separating agents in the float glass and flat glass industry. Two different separating agents can be applied on an alternating basis with the customized AP 550 TWIN retrofitted with a second power tank and a double nozzle bar. Two sets of 24 nozzles per unit can be controlled via the central control. The flexibility of the AP system thus provided enables the glass manufacturer to apply different separating agents per glass plate in continuous operation.

Whether for powder or liquid separating agents, the various applications systems of this Bavarian manufacturer have been in demand by glass manufacturers worldwide for more than 25 years. Custom adaptation possibilities with consistent application quality and long useful life are the strongest selling points of these systems.

The company will be presenting itself and its products in a “griabigen” (cozy) Alpine hut with a view of the mountains and traditional Bavarian specialties from the 23rd to the 26th of October at this year’s Glasstec show in Düsseldorf.
