The Merced, Calif., manufacturing facility for Safti First spearheaded a holiday event Dec. 16 at the Children's Hospital Central California in Madera, Calif.

The event included a holiday giveaway to the hospital of a custom Nintendo Wii Fun Center mobile entertainment unit, six Apple iPads and 20 Red Rider Wagons, according to a company release. In addition, Safti First/O'Keeffe's Inc. employees handed out holiday gifts directly to children receiving care in the hospital. Called the "Child Life Event," the day also included a luncheon with the kids and hospital staff in the Main Starlight Conference Room. The custom Fun Center mobile entertainment units contain a Sharp AQUOSTM LCD television, DVD player, and Nintendo Wii gaming system customized for hospital use. The system is designed to help children cope by providing fun and distraction, according to the release. The sponsorship includes administration, repair and maintenance for life. In addition to providing fun and entertainment, the iPads will also be used as an interactive tool that will help the nurses and hospital staff explain the treatment or procedure that the kids are receiving, eliminating the "fear of the unknown." The Red Rider wagons will be used to tow the kids and their IVs around the hospital, giving them a change of scenery aside from their hospital rooms.
