Pilkington Pyrostop® Gets Active

Date: 10 September 2010

Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Optiphon™ have been specified in a comprehensive, multi million pound refurbishment of the William Penn Leisure Centre in Rickmansworth, which provides state of the art leisure facilities to the local area.

The internal glazing between the foyer, fitness studio, pools and spectator gallery will use Pilkington Optiphon™ and Pilkington Pyrostop®.

Due to its public use, it is essential the leisure centre’s occupants are protected from hot gases, flames and heat should fire occur. The Pilkington Pyrostop® range of products turns opaque in the event of fire, providing effective insulation from heat for test times of up to 180 minutes in appropriate framing systems, maintaining integrity and providing a barrier to hot gases and flames. With such a variety of high energy activities, noise levels can be high in a leisure centre environment. Pilkington Optiphon™ is the ideal glass choice in noisy situations, as its special acoustic interlayer offers excellent noise reduction without compromising on light transmittance or impact performance.
