Finland's second largest independent glass processing firm has become part of the Pilkington Group. The acquisition of KP Lasi will give Pilkington Processing and Merchanting 15 per cent of the buoyant Finnish IGU market.

P&M European director Christophe Guillot said: "This purchase ties in nicely with our policy of being close to our fabricator customers in order that we can respond quickly and meet their on-going needs and requirements."

KP Lasi is situated in Nivala, in northern Finland, and employs 35 people. It will be renamed Pilkington Nivala and will retain its existing management team. The company has recently installed a new high-tech toughening and grinding line which will also help Pilkington to meet growing demand for safety/toughened glass in Sweden.
