DuPont: Better security glazing for less cost
|
 DuPont and the U.S. State Department (DOS) have been working closely together for the past two years on a test and development programme to creat the next generation of blast-resistant window installations.
Building owners and architects can now achieve top security by using blast-resistant window installations incorporating DuPont technologies and polymers - for less cost than alternative, lower-security solutions.
The DuPont / DOS solution incorporates laminated glass containing SentryGlas® Plus ionoplast interlayer and an enhanced structural muntin system. Extensive DOS testing showed that the combination of SentryGlas® Plus and the structural muntin window system window system successfully mitigated blast pressures of approximately 482.6 kPA (70 psi) reflected pressure and 2,060 kPA (300 psi) m/sec impulse. In addition to these excellent test results, the new window system is lighter, more energy-efficient and significantly less expensive than the conventional, blast-resistant windows used in government buildings until now.
The U.S. State Department reports that it is encouraged by these test results, and is tentatively planning to incorporate the SentryGlas® Plus glazed structural muntin window system in a number of proposed projects. This could incorporate a cost saving of millions of dollars, while providing state-of-the-art blast resistant window systems.
