Increasing legal requirements are making glass compliance an important issue facing property managers throughout Australia.

The latest requirements under Australian Standard AS 1288-94 stipulate the need to use ‘Grade A safety glass’ - either toughened or laminated - for areas of risk such as low-level windows, door panels and situations where panels could be mistaken for a door.

Glass replacement company O’Brien has developed a glass compliance inspection program specifically to help property owners and operators ensure glass in their premises complies with this Standard.

The Glassurance program involves inspections carried out by authorised staff who, if non-compliant glass is found, will provide a comprehensive report outlining work required to meet the code.

“We have designed the Glassurance program to identify glass which does not comply and which therefore could be likely to cause injury,” says Alan Phillips, O’Brien national operations director. “Our accredited glaziers inspect premises by carrying out non-destructive testing and, if non-compliant glass is found, provide a detailed report outlining work required to meet the code.

“It’s quite rare to find a premises built prior to 1994 which complies 100 percent with the current Australian Standard but many managers may not be aware that their properties do not comply.

O’Brien supports the Glassurance program with a round the clock, Australia-wide home, shop and office glass replacement service guaranteed to meet the Australian Standard AS1288-94. Customers anywhere in Australia can register for O’Brien E-Link by ensuring their preferred email contact is added to their O’Brien account details.

When the customer rings O’Brien and books a time for broken glass to be replaced, the booking details are emailed to the contact. A further email is forwarded to the customer when a glazier has been dispatched and a confirmation email sent when the job is completed.
