A year-long celebration of Pittsburgh's glass industry -- past, present and future -- aims to attract 400,000 visitors and local residents, and generate up to $20 million for the regional economy, officials said Monday.
About 70 cultural, civic and corporate organizations have to come together to participate in "Pittsburgh Celebrates Glass!" a series of events planned to highlight the role glass and glass art has played and continues to play in the region.
"'Pittsburgh Celebrates Glass!' will pay tribute to Pittsburgh's glass heritage and showcase the ways artists are using this 'transformational matter' to help shape the region's future," said Sy Holzer, chairman of the program's leadership committee.
Holzer is president of PNC Bank in Pittsburgh, a corporate sponsor, along with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
