US-based Guardian Industries has expanded its glass coater plant in Oroshaza, (SE Hungary), in a 7 billion forint, or 27.3 million euro, investment, a senior Economy Ministry official told reporters on Monday.

The expansion has created 52 new jobs bringing the total number of people employed in the plant to 272, state secretary Abel Garamhegyi said. The project received government funding, the amount of which is yet to be disclosed, he added.

Guardian's central-eastern Europe vice president Lajos Sapi said the expansion project began in mid 2006 to enable the production of specially-coated sheet glass.

Guardian Industries opened the Oroshaza plant in 1990. The plant generated a turnover of over 19 billion forints, or 74.2 million euros, in 2006. The global manufacturing company enjoys leading positions in float glass, fabricated glass products, fiberglass insulation and other building materials.
