Glaston’s Emerging Technologies received an order for bending and tempering equipment for complex shapes from a US based customer within the transport and aviation industry.

The order, which is included in Glaston’s fourth quarter 2019 order intake, will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2020.

During the project, Emerging Technologies was able to meet the high customer requirements, including demand for superior end-product quality and increasing production yield. The project, which started as an engineering project completed in the third quarter, resulted in the order of a bending and tempering machine for complex shapes. The value of the order is approximately EUR 1.8 million.

The equipment is designed to bend and temper glass to complex shapes and will be used especially in the transport and aviation industry. Equipment for tempering complex, non-cylindrical shapes, is currently not in Glaston’s standard portfolio, but the technology is based on Glaston’s core competencies in glass heat treatment.

“This is a great example of how Emerging Technologies can support its customers in their various, sometimes quite complex, needs in a very flexible way. We are able to share our high technical know-how and expertise, to the benefit of our customers by providing solutions that vary from design and engineering services to delivering complete integrated line solutions”, says VP, Emerging Technologies Miika Äppelqvist.

Established in 2017, Glaston’s Emerging Technologies unit is constantly seeking new business opportunities, and the unit offers engineering and consulting services in the field of emerging glass technologies.
