A day after receiving their first union strike benefit checks, workers at Glenshaw Glass Co. returned to work at the 100-year-old plant just before midnight Thursday after agreeing to a three-year contract.
And after only a few days on the job, nearly a dozen replacement workers hired by plant owner John Ghaznavi were out of work.
The 10-day strike was marked by bitterness among 300 members of the Glass Molders Pottery Plastics and Allied Workers Locals 70 and 134 toward Ghaznavi, whom they said had lost touch with them and ignored the plant through the late 1990s as he sought to become a glass industry mogul.
Now that the strike is over, it will take some time to mend fences, said Lou Brudnock, president of Local 134. "He has to reconnect with these people. He has to get that trust back," Brudnock said.
