"I suppose you could say that we just fell in love with glass," said Sherlyn Freeman, of the business she and her husband Richard have opened in Pine.

"Glass With Class" is a culmination of over 20 years in the glass business for the Freemans, beginning in 1986 in Humble, Texas.

There they both worked for an architectural glass company, which produced commercial glass.

After a few years, Richard started working as an assistant manager with custom glass doors, showers and mirrors. He learned the business from the inside out.

She is originally from Sheridan and he's from Angie. They returned to Washington Parish because her father, the late Ellis Byrd, was very ill and they were needed to run the family dairy business. They also continued to work part time with glass.

After selling the dairy and returning to Texas briefly, they decided to go into glass work full time with a business of their own.

They started working out of their home in Sheridan in 2002, when they formed a company and started specializing in windows, mirrors, showers and store fronts, dealing mostly with commercial builders.

"Richard has replaced most of the store fronts in the main Franklinton shopping area since Katrina," she said.

They opened the Pine store in early April, 2007. She manages the store while he is out working and installing.

In the store, they sell windows and other glass items retail to the public and also wholesale to home builders.

They have samples of available glass on display in the shop.

In addition to the glass items - windows, showers, shower doors, mirrors etc. - they also do custom framing of mirrors, photos, paintings and other things - most recently an American flag she had just finished framing.

The business includes a gift shop with various items, as well as featuring costume and sterling silver jewelry.
