On the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Madrid, a monument for the victims was unveiled in the Spanish capital.

SCHOTT in Grünenplan supplied 15,600 custom-manufactured glass building blocks made from borosilicate glass and SCHOTT in Jena provided floated borosilicate glass panes as the basic glass for the roofing construction of the 11 meter high, irregularly shaped glass cylinder. The condolences and messages of sorrow and regret from thousands of people were engraved into a transparent plastic film inside the monument that people had laid down in the Atocha train station, following the attacks.

King Juan Carlos of Spain inaugurated the glass memorial. Those in attendance showed respect for the 191 people who died by observing three minutes of silence.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Ungeheuer, Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG, Luis Sola and Lluis Trias, General Manager and Project Manager at SCHOTT Iberica, as well as Klaus Hofmann, Director of Corporate Public Relations, took part in the inauguration ceremonies on behalf of SCHOTT.
