Glass industry council forms recycling division

The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council has established a new division to promote and advocate the use of recovered glass containers in alternative products.The council´s Glass Recycling Division will seek to divert post-manufacturing and post-consumer glass from landfills.

The division will push for alternative uses of cullet, such as concrete application, construction aggregates, drainage media, blast media, decorative materials and art objects. The division also will provide information services to the council´s members, including a directory of glass users and cullet providers and chat pages to address industry issues.

The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council represents all four sectors of the glass manufacturing industry -- container, flat, fiberglass and specialty.

The council´s formation of a Glass Recycling Division is one of three initiatives of a national plan to address glass-recycling challenges.
