It was the fourth reported incident of debris or equipment falling from the building since construction began. The city’s Department of Buildings stopped all work on the 740-foot tower after pieces of glass apparently fell from a 38th-story window on the eastern face of the building, landing on West Street and on a platform inside the construction site, sometime around 2:35 p.m. A spokesman for Tishman Con struction, the general contractor for the building, said “very high winds” had blown the pieces of previously cracked glass off of the tower.Sustained winds were recorded at 20 miles an hour for most of the afternoon.
No one was injured in the incident, a Department of Buildings spokesman said. Tishman will be required to submit a full review of the tower’s facade before work can resume.
