Glass Fiber Inc., an aerospace fiberglass insulation supplier, recently announced that it will open a new manufacturing facility in the former Imation (88,000 square foot) building at 8500 S.

Rita Road. Operations are scheduled to begin in November 2006.

Arizona Glass Properties, LLC, has purchased the building and will lease the property to Glass Fiber Inc. of Chino, Calif. Glass Fiber Inc. will begin operations with an estimated 90 employees and increase to 190 employees as sales demand increases. The business is expected to generate an annual payroll of $2.6 million with the majority of the employees recruited from the Tucson region.

The main product manufactured at the facility will be a fire-resistant insulation material called HT Fiber. Working in tandem with the Boeing Company, HT Fiber was developed to support a new FAA requirement , which requires aircraft manufactured after September 2008 to have a thermal/acoustical insulation material that resists flame penetration to the fuselage. The ruling primarily affects the four Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs): Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier.
