Glass Doctor University (GDU) will conduct Auto Glass Technical Training for professional auto glass service technicians June 4-7 at the GDU Training Center in Waco.

The four-day program begins with two days of the basics of auto glass installation. Trainees will become familiar with the latest installation best practices, terminology, tools and techniques. The basic class will have minimal hands-on installation, focusing on the auto glass trade’s skills and products for safe installation. The two-day intermediate section involves hands-on training in the proper auto glass installation techniques for windshields and tempered safety glass.

GDU Technical Manager Frank Levesque, an industry veteran with 40 years of experience, is the lead instructor.

“This auto glass training is more intensive, because it has both the extensive classroom training in auto glass adhesives, tools and techniques, as well as the hands-on installation training in our state-of-the-art GDU shop,” Levesque said. “If you want to be a professional auto glass technician, this is where you will learn it from start to finish.”

Texas residents are eligible for a Texas Workforce Commission grant that will pay for the cost of the training. If the technician has been in the industry for less than 90 days, the grant will pay for the training. Technicians in the industry longer than 90 days are eligible for grants of $750 towards the training cost.

Training cost is $1,450 per person and includes registration fees, a four-night hotel stay and two meals daily. Air fare can be added when reservations are determined. Registration and travel arrangements can be made through GDU Training Coordinator Shirley Witt by calling (800) 280-9959, ext. 2480. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Classes are limited to a maximum of six people.
