The Gerresheimer Group in  Dusseldorf has agreed to acquire the pharma-glass operations of the US company  Comar Inc. in Vineland (New Jersey).

Closure of the deal is to take place at the end of March.  Gerresheimer thereby consistently continues its expansion in the target  market of pharma/life-science.

In this highly specialised market, Gerresheimer  ranks among the leading international suppliers of both glass and plastic  products. Comar uses tubular glass to produce high-quality pharmaceutical  vials and system components for pharmaceutics, diagnostics and analytical  systems.

Gerresheimer is one of the leading manufacturers of pharma glass in the  US and over a number of years has pushed ahead to achieve further business  expansion through targeted acquisitions in this attractive market.

Gerresheimer now has eight production plants in North America to supply the  dynamic pharma/life-science business. "With highly-developed production  technologies and an outstanding product range, the Glass Division of Comar  ideally complements the Gerresheimer product portfolio," says Dr. Axel  Herberg, President and CEO of the Gerresheimer Group.  The Comar Glass Division has been firmly established in the American  market for almost sixty years. With around 200 employees, up-to-date  technologies and a top-quality product range, the company is highly regarded  by its customers. The product range of the pharma-glass and diagnostics  business taken over by Gerresheimer comprises a wide variety of pharmaceutical  vials and sophisticated glass components for diagnostic and analytical  systems. Comar sales in the pharma glass sector totalled around US$24m in  2006.
