An antique shop a few doors down the road was not so lucky the thieves easily smashed its annealed glass storefront with a crowbar and were busily loading stolen goods into their getaway van when the police apprehended them at 4 a.m. on the night of 22 February. Police had been alerted by a neighbour awoken by the noise of the frustrated thieves unsuccessful efforts to break into the watch repair store via its laminated glass door.
Yves Robert, the watch repair business owner, told LGN: "When the police called I was at first distraught because I had not been able to keep up insurance payments on the shop. If my stock had been stolen, I would have been bankrupt. Because the laminated glass stayed in the frame even when smashed, my stock was saved. We were even able to stay open for business during the days immediately following the incident, until the storefront could be repaired."

A small watch repair business in Geneva, Switzerland was quite literally saved last February because of the intrusion-resistance of its laminated glass storefront and door when thieves had to give up their attempt to break into the store in the middle of the night.
